GARDEN CITY (KBOI) — Police say they arrested two people who were found in a running black Jeep Cherokee passed out on opioids Monday in the parking lot of an open business on the 8100 block of Chinden.
According to officers, they arrived on the scene to find Alexander Flink, 25, andChristina Bergstrom, 27, unresponsive in a running Jeep still in drive. Since the car was sitting in drive, officers say they surrounded the vehicle in the front and back to keep it from going anywhere.
Flink, the driver of the vehicle, awoke and saw the police car parked in front of the Jeep and attempted to flee by reversing police say. They say he was unaware that another patrol car was parked behind him and he was unable to get away. In the process, an officer was struck by the front passenger door, which was open at the time. The officer was uninjured.
“This was an extremely dangerous situation that could have easily resulted in citizens, officers, or the suspects being seriously injured. The officers on scene did an excel-lent job boxing the vehicle in prior to contacting and waking the occupants. If it was not for the patrol vehicles parked in front and behind the Jeep, we believe that one of our officers would have been seriously injured. Based on evidence located at the scene and the follow-up investigation, we have reason to believe both Flink and Bergstrom were under the influence of illegal narcotics (opioids) which is likely why they were passed while the engine was run-ning and the car was in gear. This is yet another example of the serious impact that opiates our having on our communities.” Chief Allen said.
After the collision both Fink and Bergstrom resisted arrest but were eventually taken into custody.
Flink was booked into Ada County Jail for aggravated assault on a police officer (felony), possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (felony), possession of a schedule two narcotic, driving under the influence, resisting arrest (misdemeanor) felony probation violation warrant, two failure to appear warrants (misdemeanor), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bergstrom was booked into the Ada county jail for two charges of possession of a controlled substance (felony), felony probation violation warrant, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest (misdemeanor).
