Lance Stroll has always been a talking point in F1 because of the influence that his father has due to his deep pockets. The Canadian driver made his debut in 2017 with Williams, partnering Felipe Massa. It was reported that his father had paid a grand total of $80 million to kickstart his career in F1. He drove their for a total of 2 years before making a move to newly renamed Racing Point.

Racing Point was Force India back in the day before Vijay Mallya was accused of fraud forcing him to leave the team in dire straits. During his time, both Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon were performing really well but with the entry of Lawrence Stroll in the team, one of the drivers had to be sacrificed to make way for his son, Lance Stroll. Esteban Ocon, unfortunately, had to take the fall.

This doesn’t mean that he’s a bad driver. He has shown us time and again that he can produce the goods if given the right car. But, this time, the criticism has gone too far as a Belgian commentator called him autistic on live Television. This has understandably sparked a storm on social media with fans fuming over the word chosen by the commentator to describe Lance.

Lance Stroll subjected to discriminatory words by a Belgian commentator; sparks a storm of social media

The Belgian French-speaking network RTBF Sport has condemned the words used by Lionel Froissart against Lance Stroll: RTBF strongly condemns the words used on Sunday 10 July live by its collaborator Lionel Froissart during the Austrian Grand Prix – reads the note – associating autism a pilot’s way of communicating was out of place and totally inconsistent with RTBF values.

“An internal investigation will be conducted to hear everyone involved. The goal is to understand in detail what may have led to this accident.“

“Pending the results of this investigation, RTBF will no longer work with the employee in question until further notice.”

F1, as a sport, is continuously thriving to become inclusive and non discriminatory. Therefore, this is another one of those situations when the FIA should intervene and make sure that a strong message is sent against such discriminatory actions.
