Frances Ruth Tophill is a popular horticulturist and television presenter from Kent, England. She was born in Deal, Kent, and has a sister named Charlie. She graduated from Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) – Edinburgh Campus in 2013 with a B.Sc. degree in Horticulture and Plantsmanship.
Early in her life, Tophill’s mother gave her a large planter, which sparked her interest in gardening at age 6-7. However, she did not consider gardening as a career until she was 19. Her mother suggested that Frances apply for a local gardening apprenticeship at Salutation Gardens, and she worked there for almost two and a half years. Frances’s role is mostly plant-based, working in the garden throughout the whole rebuilding of the garden and working with the landscaping team when required.
