Pat McAfee took window shopping to an extreme length on Wednesday night. The ESPN college football presenter and the host of the Pat McAfee Show bought a 2002 Cadillac Escalade on live TV. An Indianapolis auction company named Mecum Auctions had a list of cars up for grabs. Hailing from the same area, McAfee jumped right in to snag one for himself.
The former Indianapolis Colts punter was in direct contact with the auction house live on his show, which was simulcast on YouTube and ESPN. A 2002 Cadillac Escalade that had only covered 16,000 miles drove up to the platform.
An excited Pat McAfee asked his producers to pull up the specs for the Cadillac on the screen. They liked what they saw and did not waste any time placing a bid.
They outbid every other competitor and bought the car for $21,000. However, it wasn’t for his personal use; rather, McAfee gifted the old behemoth to one of his crew members named ‘Tok,’ who walked onto the set for the first time and thanked his colleague.
How did Pat McAfee buy the Cadillac Escalade?
The chief operating officer at Mecum Auctions, Sam Murtaugh, revealed how McAfee got in touch with auctioneer Matt Moravec through their mutual love for pro wrestling. The 37-year-old has often lit up the WWE scene with his fiery commentary, along with Michael Cole.
Pat [McAfee] and auctioneer Matt Moravec connected over their love of wrestling. They had a great time in-studio on Tuesday with Matt doing the opening as we would do at a live auction.Sam Murtaugh told the New York Post
His plan to buy a car for ‘Tok’ was not premeditated but rather a spontaneous action. When the Cadillac showed up on the studio screen, McAee knew that he had to buy it.
Buying the [Cadillac] Escalade today for Tok live on his show was something else. Pat knows he has a seat here at Mecum anytime.Sam Murtaugh added
The $60 million worth McAfee definitely bagged a sweet deal. Even if the car was 23 years old, it barely ran a cross-country marathon. Now compare that with a brand new 2024 Cadillac Escalade. One has to pay a minimum of $81.895 per Kelley Blue Book. If anyone wants to buy the top-most (Escalade-V) model, then they would have to spend at least a whopping $152,295.
