Columbus Short Jr. was born on September 19, 1982 in Kansas City, Missouri. He has two brothers named John and Chris. When he was five years old, Short moved with his family to Los Angeles, California, where he began acting in a youth theater. As a teenager, he attended Marcos De Niza High School in Tempe, Arizona, as well as El Segundo High School and Orange County School of the Arts back in Southern California. Short's first appearances on the small screen were in episodes of the series "ER" and "Judging Amy" in 2005. He also had a two-episode guest role on the Disney Channel teen sitcom "That's So Raven," playing Trey. From 2006 to 2007, Short played the recurring role of Darius Hawthorne, a fledgling television writer, on the short-lived NBC series "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip." He later went on to land the main role of Harrison Wright on the ABC political thriller series "Scandal," which premiered in 2012.
