KBOI 2News had an exclusive interview with Big Brother Casting Director Robyn Kass.
This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity:
Q: What do you look for while casting?
Robin: "We want to hear and see things we haven't heard and seen in 20 seasons. There are a lot of cliche Big Brother sayings that we've heard a million times. I want to hear somebody with a new strategy. I want to hear somebody looking at it in a totally different way. I want to see different energies, different ways of playing the game. That's what we're looking for— something new and fresh. Don't overthink it. That's what people end up doing and blowing their chances. We're looking for authentic people!
Q: Do you seek out people who you think might end up fighting or in a 'showmance' to spice up the show?
Robin: "There is no one more surprised than I am when it comes to showmances! Most of the people come into the audition process saying they are not looking for a showmance. I can't even tell you how or why it happens!"
Q: In casting, can you recognize a future winner when you see one?
"No! That's why I love being a fan of Big Brother. It really is the unknown! Each week, it's a completely different game. You have to go in there prepared and knowing that you could be H.O.H. one week and on the block the next week. You have to be prepared for everything. My staff and I do a pool before the season starts and try to choose a winner. I don't think I have ever chosen the winner."
Q: Why Boise, Idaho?
"This year, we sat back and said 'We haven't been to Boise.' I do have a lot of fans tweeting me from Boise. So, I said, 'Lets go out there and see what they have! I would absolutely love to get a house guest from Boise. That would be great!"
Q: Anything else people who are trying out should know?
"I do think a lot of people jump the gun and go to these auditions, thinking they probably won't get much further. Then, when it becomes a reality it sinks in and they go 'oh my gosh! I can't leave my life for three months!' So, definitely make sure you're able to take the time off. It's a long time away from your loved ones. But, I say go for it! It's such a great experience."
